We are volunteer group that teaches tennis as a platform for mentoring and community building to at-risk youth in four public housing communities in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Every Saturday from 12:30 - 3:00, May-October, we literally bring tennis to the kids by setting up temporary tennis courts within their communities. Metropolitan Tennis Group (MTG) is a not-for-profit Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender (LGBT) organization formed to provide its membership with expanded opportunities to play recreational and competitive tennis. Through our themed social events, league play and competition and annual tournaments, MTG offers New York's tennis enthusiasts a forum to play both competitively and recreationally, and an opportunity to make lasting friendships.

We meet at various sports pubs in Forest Hills and surrounding neighborhoods. Tennis and Baseball are the games we view the most. We will select a different restaurant that has large screen TVs for each meeting. Most of the time we will arrange for separate checks and a table that will seat the entire group.

I LOVE tennis!!  My relationship with running is a bit more complicated.  It's more of a love/hate type thing.  I love the energy and excitement of races, but I hate running alone.  So I figured, why not start a Queens Tennis meetup that incorporates warm up and short distance runs before we play tennis.  Two of my favorite parks are Astoria Park and Flushing Meadows/Corona Park, so I will be alternating the meetups between these two parks.  Both are great for running and tennis.
